Nautical Mile
A nautical mile is the internationally used unit of length measurement used by mariners. The international standard definition is that: 1 nautical mile equates to 1,852 metres. This corresponds, approximately, to 1 minute of latitude along any meridian. While there is no standard symbol for a nautical mile the abbreviations nm and nmi are commonly used.

Knots are used to describe the speed of a craft. 1 Knot is equal to 1 nautical mile per hour. There are a number of abbreviation used for this unit including kn, kt and kts.
